Since its foundation in 2005 in Aachen, Germany, the PicoLAS GmbH has successfully established a unique portfolio of drivers. Our engineers use all their expertise and experience to develop every single one of our products to the highest performance standards. This way, our portfolio increases continuously by various laser drivers. Our OEM drivers have pulse durations from 200 ps up to continuous wave (cw) with currents of up to 2000 A. We have the right product for many areas and applications – for the control of high power diodes or for LIDAR, medical or seeding applications. Of course, our R&D team also develops individual modules and drivers upon request, which are adapted to the specific requirements of our customers.
Some of the highlights from more than a decade of experience are the fully digital current control and the conductive cooling via baseplate. The in-house production allows complete control of the high standard production quality and flexible adjustment of our drivers to satisfy your individual needs.
A key feature of all our drivers is the compact and efficient design as well as the passive cooling. All heat generating components are in direct contact with a baseplate to achieve a low maintenance, fanless design. With our innovative products we have achieved a couple of market prominences:
• Our BFS-VRM 03 is one of the worlds fastest analog modulated driver for fiber laser seeding applications
• Our LDP-CW 90-10 is the smallest 1 kW laser diode driver available on the market with up to 90 A on a “half brick” size footprint.
• Our BFPS-VRHSP 02 offers extremely short pulses below 500 ps with a maximum current of 1.6 A
The products of the LDP-CW laser driver series are very efficient and compact cw drivers for laser diodes. Their capability ranges from continuous output current to analog modulated waveforms like sinusoidal, rectangular or triangular. The innovative current regulation concept of the LDP-CW series produces considerably less losses compared to the commonly used linear regulation concept.
If you are looking for maximum efficiency and safety for pulse durations in the range of 100 μs to 5 ms, check out our qcw drivers from our LDP-QCW series. With currents of up to 600 A our drivers deliver perfect performance in a very compact design. Our innovative current control concept actively prevents your laser diode from overshoots and overcurrent and the patented Stackprotector technology protects your diodes perfectly and drives your application to new heights and delivers an outstanding performance.
We are exceptionally proud of the LDP-CW 250-40 laser driver, which achieves 10 kW in a size less than a third of a shoebox! With the F version of this product the output can be modulated with up to 50 kHz which enables to rapidly adjust the current with rise times of <20 µs. Both versions deliver a max. output voltage of 40 V with a current of up to 250 A. Because of its exceptional compact design this driver has an excellent power density of 5 W/cm³ and a high efficiency of up to 94%.
Most of our products from the LDP-CW series provide an active laser diode current limit feature. With the help of the current limit potentiometer the user can adjust the maximum current that can flow through the laser diode. It is an additional safety feature for protecting your diode from overcurrent.The drivers of the LDP-CW series starting from the LDP-CW 80-20 protects laser diodes by using the integrated feature STACKPROTECTOR®. Our smaller drivers from this series are quite affordable, compact and efficient current supplies. The modulation is only limited by the dI/dt of the inductor. The devices can be applied in multiple industries as most of our products. Their intended field of application is for example laser soldering and welding as well as generic surface treatment and show lasers. The innovative current regulation concept of these devices produces, compared to the commonly used linear regulation concept, considerably less losses. Hence, only one supply voltage is needed for the control logic and the power stage. The current consumption drawn from the power supplies only needs to cover the average laser power and the rate is typically very low.
Your satisfaction as customer, for example in the field of photonics, with our products and service is of utmost importance for us. We test each device during manufacturing separately and archive the test results. Thus, each product is completely traceable through our product process through the serial number. The test protocols are stored without any time limit and this allows us to check on every device we ever manufactured. Another important factor for us is to avoid external production processes to keep control over each production step. Therefore, apart from the delivery of the PCB and the components, we carry out the complete manufacturing in-house. From the PCB assembly to the electrical testing of each device is everything in our hands. This allows us to control the quality of each step and it also enables us to do faster prototyping or customization for projects with our customers.
